Episode 12 - R&J Racing
Controversy surrounded R&J Racing - also known as Carter Racing - when they first arrived in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series garage in May of 2004. Founded by a sponsor who, just days earlier, had sponsored another “field filler,” R&J now competed against all of them. At first, the team struggled for speed and often failed to qualify. But with the hiring of Kevin Lepage, R&J made the most of their Ernie Elliott engines and fleet of progressively faster Dodges. The result was a series of surprising runs - not just in qualifying, but on race day.

When Country Time Lemonade Went All-In On NASCAR
Просмотров 43 тыс.Месяц назад
In the late 1980s, Country Time Lemonade Flavored Drink Mix became one of the most enthusiastic sponsors of the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. In just a few short years, the subsidiary of Kraft General Foods spent millions on advertising and pioneered brand activations as we know them today. Their funding helped rebuild three different struggling single-car teams, each repainted in neon yellow and ...

    The Realpolitik that wasn’t discussed here is that nascar has made nothing matter except the playoffs, which means all the marquee races are at the end of the year. That means you’ve made the entire season into the portion that goes head to head with football, a ratings battle nascar has never and can never win. There is no point in American history where auto racing of any sort was more popular than football, college or pro. The only way for nascar to survive the football ratings battle is if youcw got some kind of unique battle every few years. If it’s engineered every year, it’s not special and football will destroy you

    R&J actually did some really impressive stuff for the era and quality of equipment. Remember being peeved as a child that we didn't get any of their cars made, especially since it was during the peak of die-cast. Only as an adult do I realize that of the three cars I remembered most from them, one was tequila and the other was virtual poker (the third was Underdog).

    I love LePage's State Fair Corn Dogs 71 car but was absolutely disgusted to hear about them pulling the sponsorship from the 71car because of that woman crying about a lack of AA drivers in the field. What a joke that was and it explains why the sponsor dissapeared.

    This was such an awesome episode. I definitely have a lot more appreciation for Kevin Lepage as a driver. He and Tony Raines were some of the most underrated drivers in the 2000's. Could get a lot out of a car that had very little.

    In a a sentence. Nascar ceased to be a legitimate racing championship, but became nothing more than a series of gimmicks. I can thank Nascar for forcing me to seek out other series that I am now a fan of; Le Mans, Formula 1, Indycar, and MotoGP

    Come on Brock where’s the fun in any of that? Fans want big crashes, fistfights in pit lane, and drivers jump off the top rope of the catchfence. This generation of fans are bored if there isn’t a “big one”. They will never accept real racing cuz they aren’t race fans.

    Yes. YES! A thousand times, "yes." Yeah. Right. Correct! Oh and about that one thing? YES! Watching the former sport today and the way its ran is like watching a family member die. I love the integrity of tacing like I love a member of my own family...because it is. And having to see these France clowns kill it is like watching cancer take its toll on my father. Oh how i wish things could return to the way they were before the Chase and all of this BS. I didnt even watch Daytona last night. Completely forgot it was even on. Because it and the rest of the races dont matter anymore...neither do the play9ffs and neither does the champion (of Phoenix ot Homestead). I honestly couldnt even tell you who they were last year or any year since. R.I.P. to the former sport of stock car racing.

    Kevin was always a great NASCAR driver. I have a lot of respect for Kevin. That incident at Talladega in the Nationwide Series was a very ugly crash. I always liked Kevin’s paint schemes from Front Row Motorsports in 2007. Qualifying was very interesting back in those days.

  • @cmjc80
    @cmjc80 День назад

    Carter partnered with Front Row for the 2007 season which is how FRM ended up with the #37. When that partnership ended, Carter started the #08 E&M Motorsports team. Nemechek's #08 car was one of the #37 Huddle House cars from earlier in the season. E&M entered the #60 for James Hylton in the 2009 Daytona 500, this was a car number/owner point swap with Mark Simo which is how Boris Said ended up in the #08. Neither car made the race. In 2011 Front Row sold the #37 owner points to Larrry Gunselman who renumbered his #64 team. FRM renumbered from #37 to #55. Larry would then partner with both Rick Ware and Tommy Baldwin before the #37 lineage ended in 2014.
